Project Description — Design Matters (concept)

Frustrated by common misconceptions of what design is and witnessing firsthand the unsafe usage of prescription medications, I began this project with the mission of framing design as a matter of function first, form second.

The consumer safety and wellbeing aspect of label design is often overlooked due to a lack of transparency and thoughtfulness in the design process. Design Matters is an organization that seeks to bridge the gap between knowledge and accountability.

Design Matters’ mission is to set a new standard of accessibility in product packaging through the belief in the power of design to change lives.

The element that could use the most improvement is the legible design sticker. I struggled with integrating the logo and supporting text in a way that respected the existing geometric language and visual system while maintaining a clear typographic hierarchy.

The final sticker design also needed to be scaled relatively large compared to the package size, making it less practical for application. If I were to revisit the design, I would simplify the sticker by using the icon portion of the logo rather than the full wordmark.

Edit (9/4/26): I have since redesigned the sticker and updated the collaterals accordingly.
